Dr. Walter D. Finucane
Dr. Finucane has served in a variety of capacities as a college professor, high school teacher and administrator, social worker, journalist, professional speaker, and Vietnam-era military officer. He is currently teaching classes in Rhetoric and Composition, World Literature, Journalism, and Public Speaking at St. John's , Fordham, and Pace University , as well as Queensborough and LaGuardia Community Colleges .
Academically, he graduated with honors from Richmond Hill High School and St. John's University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American History. He completed graduate studies at Fordham in Journalism; Columbia in Psychology; Brockport State (US Office of Education Grant) in Applied Linguistics; and Penn State where he was a Wall Street Journal Fellow in Communication Arts.
Dr. Finucane has been and continues to be an active member in educational and community affairs. He has participated in the construction of the New York State English Regents Examinations, and was a consultant on educational issues to members of the New York City Council. He has served as President of the St. John's University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, as a Media Consultant during the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo administration, and as Deputy Grand in the Knights of Columbus.
As an accomplished author, Dr. Finucane has written a book entitled, Patterns of Thought and Expression based on common errors in the usage of the English language, and is currently co-authoring another book entitled, Handbook on Public Speaking for the College Student . As an accomplished public speaker, he recently completed certification from Toastmasters International, a communication and leadership program, as a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), and has served the organization as a Founder and President of several clubs. He is currently a motivational speaker and workshop facilitator.
A bachelor, Finucane lives in Beechhurst, Queens . His hobbies include writing, swimming, dancing, and traveling.
